An excerpt from my opinion piece published by the Springfield News-Leader on June 11, 2021:
When? That’s what I want to know.
When will the millions of independent, center-right and center-left Americans — the centrists, the moderates, the majority of Americans — tell the two extremes, “Enough is enough”?
When will we remember that “none” is the answer to the number of people with whom any of us agrees on every issue — not spouses, not partners, not siblings, not parents, not co-workers, not teammates, not authors, not heroes, not anyone?
When will we learn that the answers are not on the fringes but nearly always in the middle, many times through compromise?
